Matthias Wasinger  | Editor-in-Chief

Mag. (FH) Matthias Wasinger, MOS, Ph.D., is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of The Defence Horizon Journal. He holds a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Legal Studies from the University of Vienna and is the author of several publications in books, newspapers, journals, and periodicals. 

Ursula Werther-Pietsch  |  Co-Editor/ Special Edition

Professor Mag. Dr. Ursula Werther-Pietsch, co-editor of the TDHJ Special Edition, teaches International Law and International Relations at the Universities of Vienna and Graz, the Diplomatic Academy, the Bundeswehr University Munich, and the Austrian National Defence Academy. Published widely, including human-centrism, human rights, international crisis and conflict management, and Collective Security System.

Dermot Nolan

Dermot Nolan served for 12 years in Ireland’s Army Reserve, where he was part of the Artillery Corps. He holds a Master’s degree in Military History and Strategic Studies, as well as a Master’s degree in International Relations and International Security. His contributions have been published in European Security and by Finabel, The European Army Interoperability Centre.

Rebecca Van Pamel studied at Williams College, where she graduated with the highest honours in history and German. She has years of experience in research and has edited multiple publications. Rebecca is currently based in Vienna. 

Amit Kumar   |   Associate Editor

Amit Kumar is a PhD Research Scholar at BITS PILANI, India. His principal area of research is China Studies. He works as a Project Assistant at the Center for African Justice, Peace, and Human Rights in The Hague, The Netherlands, and as an Adjunct Researcher at The MirYam Institute in New York.

 
Terlan Djavadova  |  Assistant Editor

Terlan Djavadova, BA MA, studied Political Science, Oriental Studies and Slavic Studies at the University of Vienna. She is currently writing her master’s thesis on the legitimation strategies of Russian foreign policy in the Middle East and the Russian use of private military companies.

Lukas Bittner  |  Assistant Editor

Lukas Bittner studied Political Science at the University of Vienna. He serves at the Military Strategy Division of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Defence in Vienna. He has published extensively in academic journals and newspapers on the evolution of conflicts and the future of warfare, as well as topics like hybrid threats, the information environment, and cyber threats.

Maria Thiele is a multilingual journalist specialising in news and documentary film production, with a focus on relations between the USA, the EU, Russia, and China. She holds a dual master’s degree in International Journalism & Global Communication and in Sports Science. Maria has spent several years living and working in France, Germany, Russia, and Spain.

Patrick C. R. Terry is the Dean of the Faculty of Law and a Professor of Law at the University of Public Administration in Kehl in Germany. His main research interest is international law where he focuses on the use of force, espionage (especially cyber espionage), secondary sanctions, and state recognition. He holds four law degrees: a Ph.D. in public international law and a Master of Laws degree in International Law and International Relations (both awarded by the University of Kent, UK) as well as two German law degrees (awarded by the Ministry of Justice and the University of Tübingen).

Philip Röhr, B.A. RWTH, M.A., served as a subject librarian for law and politics at the RESOWI faculty library at the University of Graz and now holds a staff position in Crisis Management, Federal Ministry of Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation, and Technology. He particularly specialised in deterrence theories, armament and arms control as well as non-proliferation. At the University of Graz, he also completed a Master’s degree in Global Studies Law and Politics and analysed the protection of critical infrastructure in state crisis and disaster management on national and European level. He is currently law and politics officer at the University of Graz.

University of Graz. His research interests lie in the impact of cultural
and religious factors on security policy and international relations.

Niklas Hintermayer is a research manager at the German Council on
Foreign Relations. His fields of interest are: German and European
security and defence policy, European integration, Europe in the world.
Niklas studied law at the University of Vienna, European Union Studies
at the University of Leiden, and European and Eurasian Studies at the
Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies
Europe. He has published at DGAP, International Politics (IP), IISS,
HCSS, among others.

Alexandra Fabrykowska  |  Assistant Editor

Mag. Alexandra Fabrykowska, MA studied law and political science at the University of Vienna. Additionally, she completed the program international security at the European Academy of Diplomacy as well as an EU-Experts course. Besides many years of experience in the field of research, she publishes herself in the fields of international politics, space and aeronautical politics, environmental policies and interdisciplinarity.

Mag. Friedarike Santner, Ph. D. is a political scientist and cultural anthropologist with experience in development cooperation, research on migration, election observation and support. She holds a Ph. D. in Political Science.
